Dear Carnarvon Fastball Families,

As we begin a new year, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year and all that we’ve accomplished as a club. One of our notable achievements was the launch of our new website [1], which we hope will be a valuable resource for all of our members. We are also excited to announce that registration for next year’s season will open on January 15, 2023, and encourage all players to sign up early to secure their spot on a team.

In addition to our regular season, we are also offering winter clinics and pitching clinics for those who want to stay active and improve their skills during the off-season. We hope to see many of you at these clinics, and look forward to another successful year of Fastball in 2023. The pitching clinics begin on January 9th at Doncaster Elementary, and the winter clinics begin on January 14/15 at Oak Bay Rec. There are still a few spots available [2,3]. UVic Vikes is also offering pitcher and catcher clinics. There is more information about the Vikes offerings on our website [4].

We wanted to inform you that our costs have increased this year and as a result, we will be raising our fees for the upcoming season. We understand that any fee increase can be difficult for families, but we have done our best to keep the fees frozen for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, we can no longer sustain the costs of running our club at the current fee structure. To help offset the increased fees, the board of directors is assembling a fundraising committee which will be responsible for organizing events and activities to raise money for the club. However, to receive the funds raised by this committee, Fastball will need to assign some parent volunteers to the committee. If you are interested in volunteering for the fundraising committee, please let us know.

As a reminder, our club is completely volunteer-run and it is the dedication and hard work of our parents that ensures our children have an excellent Fastball experience. All members are required to volunteer in some capacity, and currently, we are in need of coordinators to help with various tasks such as the concession, fundraising, scheduling, and technical director positions. If you are interested in any of these positions or have other ideas for ways to contribute, please reach out to one of our board members.

We appreciate all of the time and effort that our volunteers put in to make our club a success. Thank you for your continued support and have a happy New Year.
